Music Review: Trick Daddy
Posted by GODFinally Famous: Born A Thug, Still A Thug
[Dunk Ryders]

Once the ambassador for Miami rap during the early part of the decade, Trick has fallen into the forgotten elder statesman position—his humble street raps not decadent enough to match up with the likes of which Rick Ross and company pump from the port of Miami. Yet therein lies Finally Famous’ greatest strength, its gritty realism more endearing and enduring than kingpin dreams. Surprisingly aware, Trick is brutally honest as hood spokesman, rhyming, “As a recipient of welfare, I pray fa’/better aid, Medicaid, and health care/and to strop treatin’ the veterans like ex-cons” on “Everyday Struggle.” But a lack of trademark thugged-out ditty from Trick keeps proceedings one-dimensionally serious, with only “A Millie” clone “Chevy’s” offering the rare change of pace. As a result, Finally is hard to digest—but still harder to ignore.
